Bridge Refurbishment Case Study
South Lakes Tree Surgeons & Landscapes Ltd recently received an enquiry from a County Council for whom we carry out public rights of way work. The enquiry was for the refurbishment of an old timber and metal bridge, which was in a very poor state of repair and deemed to be a health and safety risk.
The specification for the work was to strip down the old bridge to the main metal framework, supply and fit new hardwood timber bearers, new hardwood timber treads, new treated soft wood parapet and hand rails and new softwood timber gates, all work was agreed and the job was booked in.
The council put a temporary footpath closure on and the work was carried out in sections so the bridge was always passable in case of an emergency. The whole job was carried out within a week and all the old usable timber was recycled as a local farmer collected it for use on his farm.
